Stories for Every Child: Henley Literary Festival expands its 2026 schools offer

Children across the country can enjoy international bestsellers, award‑winning illustrators, acclaimed poets and even a film star this autumn through Henley Literary Festival’s 2026 schools programme, available both in person and online.
Supported by Fane Group, and with thanks to Hawthornden for the schools programme, the Festival runs from 2nd–11th October in Henley‑on‑Thames. Now in its 20th year, one of the UK’s most popular book festivals will be its most accessible yet, with free live‑streaming for schools and care homes from two venues, plus expanded pupil premium provision. The full public programme of 140 conversations, talks, performances and workshops goes on sale in July.
Following high demand, this year’s schools events have increased and will run each weekday morning from 5th–9th October. Schools can attend in person — with every child receiving a book as part of their ticket — or join online for free from anywhere in the UK.

Highlights include Lottie Brooks creator Katie Kirby discussing her chart‑topping series, and fellow bestseller M.G. Leonard bringing Elizabethan England to life. Paterson Joseph, star of Wonka, celebrates Black British history with Ten Children Who Changed the World, while comedian Olaf Falafel introduces his new graphic‑novel series The Far‑Out Five.
Younger pupils can enjoy interactive sessions with award‑winning author‑illustrator Sophy Henn, much‑loved local poet A.F. Harrold, and former Children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho.
Henley Literary Festival Children’s programmer Saskia Williams said, “The schools programme is a real highlight of our year, from seeing excited children start to read their new books as they wait for the school bus to being sent such brilliant messages from pupils and teachers who join us online from across the country. And this is our biggest and best yet!”
All events both virtual and in‑person can be booked via the Henley Literary Festival website, with tickets allocated on a first‑come, first‑served basis. Visit What’s on (Schools) – Henley Literary Festival
