At the moment we are being blessed with beautiful sunny, crisp winter mornings that can only put a spring in your step. With spring in mind, we can’t wait for those warmer days and having flowers around the house to keep us going until then is a great wellbeing boost, so when we saw this post the other day from Bosley Patch in Henley about British flowers we couldn’t help but share. Altogether now…”Tulips from Lincolnshire”.

“What a lovely frosty, bright morning! I’m eagerly awaiting the delivery of our first British Tulips .. such a lovely burst of colour in deep winter. They come from a family run farm in Lincolnshire, historically one of our most important horticultural counties.

Our domestic flower Industry has suffered years of neglect and hardship as the heavily subsidised Dutch growers cornered the market and the supermarkets drove down the prices (and quality) luckily some of our very best and most resourceful growers survived and today there is something of a resurgence. Not just for these bigger commercial operations but for 100’s of small growers selling direct to market (like me).

Working together, using their commercial glasshouses and expertise to grow these really important and technical early indoor crops and our proximity to our customers which means we can grow a huge range of ‘hard to transport’ varieties in season we can offer you beautiful British flowers pretty much from January to November … starting with the Scilly daffs and ending with the Chrysanthemums.. and that’s without all the wonderful Cornish foliage in December !

The beautiful, scented narcissus from the Scilly isles come in this morning and tomorrow Jo’s tulips will be here too .. and before we know it there will be lots of lovely flowers in the garden.”
