OK, so we’ve played with the classic Bob Marley song, but we do hope you like ramen too as Pig & Eel ramen noodle bar opens it’s doors this evening (Sat 27th Aug) above Drifters Coffee House.

Experience Henley were invited along for a pre-opening of the hotly anticipated ramen bar for a sneaky taste of what’s on the menu and to be frank we couldn’t wait to tuck in as when we arrived the intoxicating smells wafting from upstairs enveloped us and drew us up like a magnetic force!

Behind the kitchen bar at the top were Josh and his wife Chloe who were the chief knife wielders, pans shakers and bowl fillers for the evening.

Keeping it simple but super tasty, the four ramen bowls on offer are Americana Coke Hyena – Coca-cola infused, overnight cook pork belly, sweet potato, and ajitama, Numb Numb – Twice cooked, slow then fast, Sichuan pepper pork, Sichuan chilli infused pickled peppers. All the P’s, Shitake Happens – Sweet shichimi shiitakes, king oysters, and bean curd and Tofu King Delicious – Twice cooked, sumac and cola infused, sesame tofu, and pickled peppers.

We tried the Numb Numb, Tofu King Delicious and had cheeky taste of some of the locally grown king oysters from Shitake Happens. All fabulously delicious with flavour and slurpingly good house noodles.

The pork was literally melt in the mouth, and the tofu was fantastic. This is certainly not just a token nod to those wanting to eat plant based, it was a masterclass in how to make tofu tasty and Josh has done that with aplomb. Also a nod to the house pickled peppers, that give a great subtle heat without blowing your head off! Quite addictive.

Did we slurp our noodles? Yes. Did we drink our broth? Yes. Do we love Pig & Eel? Yes.

Good luck to Josh and the team at Pig & Eel. We love a new foodie place to adventure out to in Henley and this noodle ramen house ticks the boxes. Great food and good vibes.
