Join the GB Olympic & Paralympic athletes of the Henley area on September 18th for a row-past between the River & Rowing Museum and Upper Thames Rowing Club, an open-top bus tour on a circuit through the town, and an athlete meet & greet at the Town Hall.

The programme involving celebrations for 23 Olympians and Paralympians will start in the morning at 10.00am when some of the athletes will head out onto the water from Leander Club for a row-past up towards the River & Rowing Museum and then onto Upper Thames Rowing Club. There may even be a treat of some mini races organised by sports commentator Peter O’Hanlon.

At around 11.30, once off the water the athletes will jump on board an open-top bus for a parade via Hart Street, New Street and Bell Street making their way back to the Town Hall for speeches with The Mayor of Henley, Cllr Sarah Miller and Leander Club captain Jack Beaumont. There will then be a chance to meet and mingle with the athletes.

Peter O’Hanlon, who is co-ordinating the event said, ‘The Heroes’ return is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our athletes, and they are looking forward to meeting everyone who cheered them on from home during the Olympics and Paralympics.’ Mayor of Henley Councillor Sarah Miller said: “The Olympics and Paralympics have been such a rallying point after the last 18 months.  There are medals to celebrate – but for me, it’s about so much more! Our athletes are simply awe-inspiring. We salute them!”

Leander Club will then be open from 1pm to everyone with a bar, BBQ and live music all day.

A great opportunity to join in celebrating our Olympic oarsmen and oarswomen fantastic acheivements.
