The Kenton Theatre reopens to a summer season of shows

The Kenton Theatre re-opened its Box Office on Monday 17th May and the first visitors in over a year were welcomed into the building to purchase tickets in person and it opens with an exciting outdoor summer roadshow programme and a summer season in the theatre.

The precious Henley theatre has undergone a great deal of work over the past two months to freshen up the outside with repairs to the front wall and woodwork and has now been repainted in the same ivory shade seen in historic photographs of the building along with a refurbishment of the external lighting.

The Box Office is now open between 11am and 3pm from Monday to Saturday and the theatre has covid safe policies in place whilst the doors are open.

Recent announcements by the Kenton Theatre include a packed Autumn Season for 2021 including this year’s pantomime, Cinderella and is delighted to be working with Bear in the Air Productions again on this year’s Christmas show which promises to be the biggest and best yet.

Whilst the Kenton Theatre would normally be largely closed for maintenance over August, this year sees a range of summer performances on stage and also a new initiative to take shows out into the community. The Kenton Theatre Summer Road Show 2021 will feature events in local open spaces across July and August.

The Kenton Theatre, the UK’s fourth-oldest working theatre based in the centre of Henley-on-Thames, continues its campaign to raise £35,000 through Kenton For Keeps. Like most theatres in the UK the Kenton Theatre continues to rely on the kind support of the community since closing its doors to the public in March last year. A new recruitment drive is also beginning to build the team of volunteers who assist audience members at performances, help behind the bar, and sell tickets at the Box Office. Anybody who is interested learning more details about volunteering opportunities at The Kenton Theatre is invited to email volunteers@kentontheatre.co.uk.

Julie Huntington, Chair of the Trustees at the Kenton Theatre said:

‘Here at the Kenton Theatre we are really thrilled to be able to throw open the doors once more and welcome our friends and audiences back into the building. We have given the building a much-needed dose of TLC to brighten up the frontage and ensure that the Kenton Theatre is ready for shows to begin again in July. It has been lovely to be able to chat to people coming in to buy their tickets for our summer events after we have been closed for such a long time and it really feels as though we are coming back stronger than ever.’
