Oi Henley, you’re ‘aving a laugh

Yes, Henley is literally having a laugh! Proper belly laughing comedy is abound in quaint old Henley at the moment. Who’d have thought that Henley would be such a hot bed of comedy?

The Kenton Theatre, the UK’s fourth oldest working theatre, regularly has a smattering of comedy acts within its programme of events and often gets big names dropping by to test out their gags before stadium gigs and tours, with the most recent being Alan Carr and Michael McIntyre. Plus previously more big hitters on the circuit to visit Dara Ó Briain and Jo Brand. You have to have your ticket trigger finger ready to secure your theatre seats for these.

Next comedic stand-up install at the Kenton is BAFTA-winning comedian Iain Stirling – A work in progress on Friday 1st December, working up some new material for his upcoming tour.

Luckily for the less nimble fingered there are more accessible and easier to come by tickets for an evening of raucous comedy and belly aches.

Tom Ryan is the man behind Henley’s HONK! presenting live comedy, music and more. HONK! continues to draw in the crowd as last month Tom hosted his 10th successive sell-out event with Arthur Smith and Pravanya Pillay at their home ground of ‘the world’s most comfortable comedy club’ , The Palm Court at The Relais Henley.

There are already two more nights of HONK! laughter this year with ‘A hilarious Halloween line-up’ on 31st October that will include Freya McGhee (Edinburgh, Brighton Fringe), Dale Shaw (Radio 4, Painfully British Haikus) with more acts to be announced! All treats, no tricks! And firing up the funny bones on 30th November are Edinburgh stars Isabelle Farah (Soho Theatre) & Rhiannon Shaw (BBC New Comedy Awards).

And there’s more… a brand new comedy night is launching at the Chocolate Cafe on Thameside. Comedy at The Chocolate Cafe has its first outing this week on 5th October with four top award winning stand up and TV Comedians Nathan Caton – Live at the Apollo and Mock the Week, Joe Wells – BBC 2, Pauline Eyre – award winning comedian, all held together by comedic MC Jonathan Elston.

Lastly, there could be more comedy in the pipeline with Rebel Comedy teasing that a monthly comedy club from them is coming soon. I guess it’s watch this witty space!
