Meet Henderson with proper ‘teddy bear’ heritage

Henley’s famous and adorable teddy bear shop Asquiths Bearpawium has just had a new arrival.

Meet the gorgeous Henderson. He is a limited edition bear that features beautifully soft and thick mohair, standing at 55cm tall, but that’s not all there is to him. Henderson is personally signed by Tweed Roosevelt, the great-grandson of President Theodore Roosevelt.

In fact the term ‘teddy bear’ originated from President Roosevelt, who, during a 1902 hunting trip in Mississippi, refused to shoot a little bear.

Henderson bear got his distinguished name from Colonel Robert Henderson, a man with two passions in life, teddy bears and the army. His cherished collection, auctioned at Christie’s in December 1994, included the legendary “Teddy Girl.” The bear, never parted with by the Colonel, was sold at a record-breaking price of £110,000 to Japanese collector Yoshi Sekiguchi.

Owner of Asquiths Rachel Hollinrake says she has a tough decision, will she sell him or will he become part of her personal collection. Paws for thought!

Why not pop in and meet Henderson and all his furry pals this Christmas at 26, Hart Street, Henley-on-Thames.
