There will be a triumphant return to Market Place, Henley-on-Thames on Monday 2nd May from 12 – 5pm, for the annual Henley May Fayre after a hiatus of two years.

There will be a wide range of stall holders providing sweets, popcorn, face painting, cakes, Tombola and other children’s games. There will also be several children’s fairground rides and visitors can enjoy some traditional games like Hook the Duck, Strongman and Coconut Shy.

The action kicks off at 12 noon with a traditional May Pole Dance courtesy of Steph’s Divas & Dudes Dance School. It will be choreographed by Anne Garrison who has been teaching maypole dancing since 2006.

Everyone is invited to go along in Fancy Dress with this year theme being JUBILEE. The best fancy-dress costume will win a prize.

There will be live music on the main stage in addition to a whole afternoon of dance, theatre, live entertainment and circus performers.

No May Fayre is complete without Morris Dancers and the event will be welcoming the Ellington Morris Dancers back to Henley again.

The Rowbarge Inn team are the returning champions of the May Fayre Tug of War. They won the challenge at the previous two fayres. In the spirit of healthy competition, the organisers would like to encourage Fayre-goers to get some new teams together and give them a run for their money.

Mayor of Henley, Councillor Sarah Miller said:

“The May Fayre is a high point of Henley’s calendar. Like many residents, I remember visiting it as a child and I absolutely loved it. I am so pleased that I get to organise this wonderful event for Henley, it’s great for local people, fabulous for retailers and business and fantastic fun for families. The May Fayre is part of our heritage – it is going to be a fabulous day, full of music, games and Morris dancing. Don’t miss out – Get involved!”

Sarah and the team of organisers would like to thank the generous support from the sponsors of the May Fayre whom they say without them the event would just not happen.
