Aldi plans to open new food store in Henley

After much rumouring the award winning discount food retailer Aldi has announced plans to open a new store in Henley and has launched a public consultation. The proposed site at Reading Road is currently home to Jewson, which intends to relocate to the former Gibbs and Dandy site further up the road.
Aldi says that they are proud to be at the heart of local communities across the country and to continue their community-led culture and that they have set out a number of “neighbour-friendly” practice that includes recruiting locally, a core of 1,800 exclusive products, much less than other supermarkets therefore limiting the number of deliveries, no outside storage or movement of goods, they collaborate with community platform Neighbourly and that Aldi spent an extra £1.3bn with its British suppliers in 2023 with that amount to increase further.
Their proposal for Henley includes a total investment of approximately £9million, a new community food store with their range of products other retailers cannot match, electric vehicle charging and a highly sustainable building including solar panels, air source heat pumps and 100% LED lighting.
Residents are invited to view the plans and their virtual exhibition at Aldi Henley where there is an option to provide feedback and comments until 29th January. Aldi are also holding an in-person public consultation at Henley Town Hall on Thursday 22nd January 3-7pm.
