You’ve got a friend in me, our new burger buddy

Experience Henley was first out of the blocks back in March to announce the end of the line for Tubbies Diner and all change for Buddy’s Breakfasts & Burgers at Henley Railway Station.

After a few months of negotiating contracts and a full revamp of the premises, Buddy’s opened to ravenous Regatta revellers in June.

We like to think that we know a good burger having worked in the early days of the blossoming street food scene and enjoyed burgers from original traders such as Bleecker, Patty & Bun, OMD and one of our all time favourites Baba G’s who all paved the way for the great burger scene that we have in the UK now.

The secret to a great burger? Excellent produce and keep it simple. The better the meat and the bun, ultimately the better the burger and Buddy’s deliver. Like testing a chef with cooking an omelette, always go for the standard, basic burger to test their mettle. Buddy’s meat patty was tasty. You could taste the meat and it was well seasoned. And yes a good burger needs to be a patty not a huge hulk of bulky meat – also means you can double up on meatiness if you want!

Of course you need to have the right bun to encase and soak up all the meat juices and sauces without falling apart, so the potato bun that Buddy’s have made especially for them by Lawlor’s bakery has been designed and tested to do just that.

The meat that Buddy’s use comes from Berkshire Meat Traders in Reading, who Josh says have been friends and suppliers of the family for years.

You can double up on your patties, have extra bacon and cheese or choose from any of the other tasty burgers on offer. We had a very generous portion of fries to share – hot, crisp and salty. Talking of fries, as we entered a customer was propped up on the service bar hoovering up a plate of ‘dirty fries’ comprising of the ubiquitous crispy chips topped with a smashed patty, chopped up bacon bits and spring onion with three different dips of cool, spicy and cheese sauce, which looked epic.

Buddy’s are not only all about burgers which they serve from 12pm-9pm, they also have a superb looking breakfast menu of a Breakfast Burger (yes please!), Full English, a Vegan Breakfast, ‘Amy’s smavo’ avo, eggs & toast and choice of filled baps. Definitely worth remembering for those difficult mornings after the night before. All of which can be washed down with a hot or soft drink.

This is definitely a great fit for Henley and it’s increasing top notch foodie offerings. Nice one!
