Lauded Chef takes over The Dew Drop Inn at Hurley
A chef who propelled The Crown at Burchett’s Green to Michelin star status, has taken on the 16th century Brakspear owned country pub The Dew Drop Inn at Hurley just outside Henley, where he will be back behind the stove cooking solo.
Simon Bonwick, who describes himself as a ‘manic food fanatic’, along with his wife Deborah, will be opening the doors in January offering a seasonal menu of dishes in the ’20-odd cover’ dining room.
” I Like doing what I am doing here at The Dew Drop Inn. Cooking the kind of food I like to eat.
So whatever makes me laugh and whatever makes me happy is what you’ll find on the menu each week.”
Simon Bonwick
Of the pub itself they say that they’re told that their little pub is like a homely house, that a table is yours for the evening and that they like to think that they are the relaxed-casual type, yet underneath informative and deadly serious about their offer.
Menus wont be up on their website but they will happily send a current one to you. Of wine and beer they say, ‘is a continuous load of joy to us, our list is small and without the usual suspects, if you wish we have a ‘haggle board’ loaded with bottles that have a bit of age, peculiarity and some weight. Tankards of clean, frothy beer by Brakspear are on the pumps.”
The Dew Drop Inn is the latest in the line up of recently re-opened Brakspear pubs, The Little Angel in Henley and The Golden Ball in Assendon, that have attracted chefs from the kitchens of Tom Kerridge and Clare Smyth and now Chef Simon Bonwick who packs a mighty punch with his gamut of awards, achievements, plaudits and the ever elusive, much coveted Michelin Star.
