14 great ideas for August Bank Holiday in Henley

Yes, it’s that time of year again, how does the August Bank Holiday come round so quickly?

What are your plans for the weekend? Chilling at home, popping to the pub for a bite to eat and pint in the sunshine or finding something for the family to do? Here are a few ideas…

Check out all the activities at the River & Rowing Museum, including the current exhibitions The Games at Henley and The Space Vault Exhibition. Whilst you’re there pop into the cafe to enjoy a coffee and cake in the dappled light of the wonderful willows.

There’s still time to head down to Stonor Valley Farm for a meander through their wonderful sunflower field. Don’t forget to take your secateurs to pick some to take home. Or head along to Stonor Park’s Wild Summer at Tumblestone Hollow with nature walks, den building, The Magic Spring, stepping stones and pizza and ice cream from The Rumble Hut.

Make it a Stonor bumper weekend with a visit to the Henley Country Craft Show, the UK’s largest craft show with over 200 stalls all in the beautiful grounds of Stonor Park Friday 23rd – Monday 26th.

How about a riverside picnic? Snaffle up all your favourite goodies or order one from The Henley Larder or Pavilion Foods. What’s better than a riverside a picnic…a picnic on a boat. Hire a boat from Hobbs of Henley, book in advance or just rock up on the day. Or maybe hire out a kayak or canoe and find a perfect spot along the river bank. And perhaps a round of Adventure Golf?

Helicopter flights, bungee jumping, hot air balloons, live music, stunt team demonstrations, monster truck rides and more family things you can do to shake a stick at is all going on at Henley Summerfest at the Henley Showground on Saturday 24th.

Hire a bike or use your feet to visit some of the wonderful vineyards in and around Henley. A wine tour or tasting thrown into the weekend’s activities can’t be a bad thing! Enjoy some live music in ‘the vines’ on Friday 23rd with Denny Ilett’s Led Zep Project at Oaken Grove Vineyard.

Chill out Ibiza style at Hart Street Tavern with Ibiza Dance Classics on Saturday 24th from 9pm with DJ Toby Coles and on Sunday 25th with DJ Jamie Taylor, Sundowners & Bar Snacks.

The Plough at Shiplake have their Hestia Festival on Saturday 24th from 2pm with a Ukraine Jazz duo, silent disco, garden games, more live music, food and cocktails.

The Argyll in Market Place is hosting a Beer & Gin Festival from Friday 23rd – Monday 26th with 20 kegs, 6 casks and 30 gins serving their full menu as well as a BBQ on the Saturday and roasts all day Sunday.
