How to master summer holiday style

How to master holiday style…but what do I pack?

Are you an under or over packer? For years I took waaaay too much.

A few things have changed with my holiday packing and style:

  1. I finally realised I am very rarely attending any glamorous events on my holidays and stopped taking a gazillion pair of shoes and impractical dresses.
  2. I discovered packing cubes.
  3. I found my summer uniform and pretty much stick to it.
  4. I take what I like wearing, not what I think I should be wearing.
  5. I hang up outfits before I go, and do a final edit, before they get packed.
  6. I take loads of sunnies, they don’t take up much space, and can really change a look. Or help add some glam.

Here are my top tips for the best holidays style and how to pack well!

First things first: Get packing cubes. They are holiday life savers. And no am not exaggerating.

Try and do a bit of capsule style and make it easy: I love versatile, timeless pieces that interweave seamlessly. Silk slip dress either patterned or plain is always great, and a relaxed blazer or pretty cardigan for air con or a more formal look, and the quintessential white or striped shirt which can be beach cover up or cool French girl dinner vibes.

Packing cubes…you won’t regret it!

A few showstopper pieces: While minimalism has its charm, every wardrobe needs a touch of drama. I pack a couple or standout pieces that scream “I’m on holiday” A bold, printed kaftan for beach days or maybe a sequined mini for a night out. Or if space is tight just a spectacular pair of oversized sunglasses or statement necklace for that eternal glam factor.

Swimsuits make great tops: If you follow my Instagram, you will know these are a go-to for summer for me. They hold you in, they flatter your boobs and come in such great prints. I do take quite a lot, as rolled up they don’t take up too much room. Don’t rule them out with shorts or elegant max or mini for a day or night time outfit. Definitely not just for the pool.

But what about the shoes? Personally, I have sort of given up on heels for holidays as there are so many stunning sandals these days. But if you are resort bound, then a metallic heel works so well with a tan. Or you can’t go wrong with a classy wedge. I wear my trainers to travel in as they take up so much room!! That way I can still use the gym or do a run.

Go mad with earrings or necklaces: They don’t take up too much room and it’s great to experiment a bit isn’t it. Opt for pieces that are light yet impactful AND WATERPROOF is a must.

What about beauty faves? Travel can take a toll on your skin, and we all want that coveted glow (even if a bit pink after the post beach shower!). Hydrating mists, SPF, and a bold lipstick are non-negotiables in my beauty bag. I love Balance Me Natural Skincare, Charlotte Tilbury and Garnier products. I also stack a bit of St. Tropez instant tan (mini size) so can eradicate the ‘pink Brit’ look, for an early holiday dinner out!

Final word on packing: The secret to seamless packing lies in organization. Use packing cubes to compartmentalize outfits, keeping everything accessible and pristine. Roll your clothes (doesn’t everyone know that by now, but just in case?!) Plan your outfits. And keep your accessories and shoes in separate pouches for ease and quick go to for instant glam.

Bon voyage!
