These girls are on fire – Henley Women’s Regatta keeps on growing

The Henley Women’s Regatta is a prestigious rowing event in Henley-on-Thames that attracts teams from all over the world. It has been held annually since 1988 and has seen a steady increase in the number of crews and spectators. For the second year running the event has attracted over 500 entries. The regatta showcases the talent and dedication of female rowers and promotes the sport of rowing among women and girls.

The regatta takes place on the famous course on the River Thames, where competitors race side by side in various categories, from junior to international level.

201 clubs will take to the water between Friday 16th to Sunday 18th June, and will feature time trials and match races for all crews. Over 2,000 athletes are expected to participate in this exciting and challenging event.

The largest entry has come for the Frank V Harry Cup for development coxed fours, which attracted 57 crews. They will be whittled down to 16 in the time trials, which start at 09:00 on Friday 16th June.

HWR chairman Naomi Riches MBE said: “Now that the entries are closed for HWR 2023 it is really exciting to see such a record number of entries including 33 international crews.

“Henley Women’s is going from strength to strength; each year it is the biggest achievement for some athletes, but for others it is a stepping stone on the way to Henley Royal Regatta. We are looking forward to welcoming all athletes, coaches and spectators, and to seeing some fast and close racing.”
