The Barn Reborn at The Bottle & Glass

The Bottle & Glass Inn, an award-winning restaurant-with-rooms near Henley-on-Thames, has announced the launch of its Barn 2.0. The Barn at The Bottle & Glass Inn will re-open on 25th June and will be open seven days a week for coffees, pastries, breakfast, lunch and special event nights.

Open fire cooking and local suppliers will continue to feature with burgers and pizzas (including Pizza al Taglio) on the extended menu which will also offer café-style favourites. The relaxed menu will be overseen by Michelin-starred Executive Chef Dom Robinson and visitors can also look forward to a series of open fire feast nights, seasonal suppers and collaborations with local producers.

The space is the final evolution of the original barn which was introduced in 2021 as an outside dining option during Covid. The disused Dutch barn, open to the elements and sitting across the courtyard from Grade II-listed Bottle & Glass Inn, became a lifeline during those difficult months. Over the last three years, there have been many enhancements made, however a nine-month break has allowed for a total redevelopment.

The rustic and agricultural feel of the barn has been maintained, with much of the original materials repurposed. The Barn’s old, patinated corrugated iron roof is still in place, but above this sits a custom-made insulated roof. Black weatherboarding covers the walls, while polished concrete flooring adds a modern touch. The open sides have been replaced with enormous picture windows and three sets of double French doors which take in the views looking out across the fields to Bones Wood.

David Holliday, who co-owns The Bottle & Glass Inn with his business partner Alex Sergeant under the Sika Inns brand, says: “It’s been a rollercoaster of a journey to get to where we are today, and a heroic effort from so many to get The Barn complete and looking so fabulous. We are absolutely thrilled with the result! From the beginning, it was important to keep the agricultural integrity of the barn – the bones, character and charm of original barn that our community fell in love with during Covid are still intact. We wanted to create a warm and welcoming space for everyone. It’s still a laidback, approachable place, perfectly suited to dog walkers, and families and friends with gaggles of kids.”

As well as the work that has been done on The Barn, there are plans afoot to add a collection of Shepherd’s Huts to the accommodation offering and to introduce poly tunnels allowing the team to grow its own fruit and vegetables to increase the low mileage produce on the menus.
