Save our pudding! Surely the great British dessert isn’t in decline?

According to English Heritage, the classic British pudding may be on the verge of extinction, though they are attempting to reverse the trend with their new pudding inspired ice cream at English Heritage sites and a cookery book that they are launching in September!
The recent research reveals that only 2% of households make a homemade pudding daily, well it can be a bit of a faff, and frankly who has the time for that, and 62% rarely or never make one at all. It’s a sobering thought though, especially for those of us who grew up with a proper pudding made at home at least once a week on a Sunday.
But here at Experience Henley, we’re not convinced the crumble is crumbling. Who doesn’t love an apple crumble after a crisp autumn walk, or hunkering down with a sticky toffee pudding following a Sunday roast? These aren’t just desserts they’re rituals, traditions, packed with nostalgia and warmth such as memories of Grandma’s steamed treacle pudding.
So we’re putting the question to you what’s your favourite pudding? Is it a treacle tart, bread & butter pudding or perhaps a classic spotted dick with lashings of custard? And if you’re not making it at home, where is the best pud in town?
Some of us may not be making them, but we sure are eating them and recipes from Mrs Beeton to James Martin and beyond will always be on our shelves to recreate these very British and classic puds.
Let’s celebrate the puddings that bring us joy.
