New riverside deli & coffee shop opens

Nestled in the historic The Relais Hotel in the beautiful riverside location by Henley Bridge is Henley Delicatessen which has just opened its doors. Experience Henley popped along for their soft opening today (29/05/24) ahead of their official opening on Saturday 1st June.

It’s undeniable that the newly opened coffee shop and deli exudes a rather magical charm. The small, eccentric space conjures a vibe that’s a blend of a Wes Anderson or Willy Wonka film with the sophistication of a high-end London tea room..

The room is light, bright and airy and the counter was crammed with delightful sweet treats, pastries, cup cakes and savoury goodies including a pretty spectacular Victoria sponge which was large enough to wear as a hat!

We spoke to Mark Chapman owner of the Henley Delicatessen, “we want to be slightly different to what’s already on offer in Henley. Our aspirations are to be a small delicatessen with cold meats and cheese as well, but at the moment we just want to be high quality at a good price offering cakes and savouries. We will also be offering fresh juices and smoothies, and we’re delighted to be working with locally produced and organic Henley Juices“.

On why they have chosen to open in the The Relais, Mark says, “The Relais is a gorgeous spot right by the river and you get so many people walking along the riverside and its the perfect opportunity to offer walkers, visitors and locals a lovely space to have rest and enjoy a cup of delicious tea or coffee and of course some of our wonderful cakes and pastries”.

Along with Afternoon Cream Teas, the Henley Delicatessen will also be hosting coffee roasting classes and latte art classes.
