Henley Town Regatta – a regatta for all

Henley Town & Visitors’ Regatta takes place this Saturday, 3rd August, in its traditional format and location with 289 entries in 147 races, running on a continuous schedule from 9am to 7pm.

The Regatta enclosure is free to enter for all, with families very welcome. The food court will be in place again this year and we are pleased to welcome Camper Café for great coffee, Gelato Henley Italian ice cream & sorbets, Hardy Yard Pizza and Indie Rabble Brewing Company as our food and beverage providers for what should be an excellent day. The enclosure entrance is a short walk from Henley town centre, just downstream from the bridge on the Berkshire bank.

This is a great opportunity to enjoy all the excitement of racing on this iconic stretch of river in a relaxed and family-friendly setting. Racing will be held on the Regatta’s traditional 3-lane course over 800m from ‘Old Blades’ to Phyllis Court, at 4-minute intervals throughout the day.

The event has attracted many competitors ranging in age from 14 to over 60 years old. Some have represented GB at international level, but for others this may be their first competitive rowing event.

Racing is in three divisions starting at around 0900, 1200 and 1540 with nearly 60 clubs represented in over 80 categories, involving around 580 competitors. Most entries coming from regular supporters of the regatta, led by clubs from Wallingford RC, Marlow RC, Henley RC and Hereford RC. With this number, competition for the Victor Ludorum awarded to the club achieving the most wins on the day will be fierce.

Ken Arlett this year’s Regatta President said, “The Henley Town & Visitors’ Regatta has once again achieved near record entries, this Regatta being one of the most popular and friendly events in the rowing calendar. It is not every day that rowing events take place on the same stretch of river as the Henley Royal Regatta course. Once their race is finished competitors can then say how they rowed at Henley! I look forward to meeting many local residents and competitors on Saturday 3rd August, on what should be a wonderful day of rowing. Refreshments will be available in the regatta enclosure for everyone throughout.”

Mark Davies, Regatta Chairman, said: “The Regatta Committee has been working hard to prepare a great day out for both competitors and spectators. We couldn’t do it without the support of Henley Town Council, Henley Royal Regatta – who allow us to use their wonderful lawns and other facilities, the volunteers that make things to run smoothly, and the financial support of our subscribers, sponsors and advertisers. It’s a real team effort and we look forward to seeing people down by the riverside, enjoying this historic, over 150-year-old, town event”.
