Discover hidden gems on your doorstep this September with Heritage Open Days. Between 8th-17th September thousands of totally free experiences all across the country, including six venues around Henley, are opening up their doors for you to explore.

Visit 16th Century National Trust Greys Court which has been modified over the centuries, creating a patchwork of medieval, Tudor, Georgian, Victorian and 20th century influences inside and out. Through a mixture of building styles, architectural influences and remnants of the past, discover a stitched-together story of the different families that have called this place home for over 900 years.

Explore Nuffield Place the beloved home of one of the most prolific philanthropists of the 20th century, William Morris, later Lord Nuffield and founder of the Morris Motor Company. The modest house and picturesque gardens will be open for all throughout the day.

Learn about the history of Henley Town Hall, with a tour of the Town Hall and Mayors Parlour. View the art works in the town hall, see the Councillor, Mayor, Town Clerk and Town Sergeants robes on display as well as the ceremonial Mace.

Discover the history of The Relais Hotel (formerly The Red Lion) with stories in the days of slow travelling. King Charles I stopped on his way from London to Oxford in 1632, and again in 1642 with Prince Rupert, during the English Civil War. His painted Royal Coat of Arms is preserved over the fireplace in room 108.

To help celebrate Heritage Open Days this year the River & Rowing Museum in Henley will be open for free during the weekend of the 16th and 17th September with storytelling sessions and family focused tours.

Go and see the inside of the remarkable building, the Henley Masonic Centre Thames Lodge, which has not normally been open to the public since their establishment in 1881. Find out about the Lodge which was a purpose-built hall was built on the Reading Road in 1890 on a site given by prominent Henley Freemason, W. D. Mackenzie, over 140 years ago.
