Your chance to explore and see hidden and historical places in and around Henley. Heritage Open Days is England’s largest festival of history & culture. Every year in September it brings people together to celebrate their heritage, community and history.
All the events are free entrance from 6th – 15th September
From the Garden of Eden to Paradise, a journey in stained glass
St Mary’s Church, Henley-on-Thames. Explore our beautiful stained glass and take a journey from the Garden of Eden to Paradise. There will be activities for children and self-guided tours and talks for all.
Greys Court, is an intimate family home and peaceful estate set in the rolling Chiltern Hills. It has been modified over the centuries, creating a patchwork of medieval, Tudor, Georgian, Victorian and 20th century influences inside and out.
Nuffield Place reveals the surprisingly down-to-earth lives of William Morris, later Lord Nuffield and founder of the Morris Motor Company, and his wife, Elizabeth.
Henley’s Quaker Heritage – Whatever the weather from frost fairs to global warming
Saturday 14th September from 2 – 5 p.m. Henley Meeting House will be open for a special exhibition for visitors to look around; some 17th century activities will be available in the garden and our ancient burial ground.
Our team of friendly staff and volunteers will be on hand throughout the day to bring our collection to life and talk to visitors about the theme of this year’s Heritage Open Days ‘Routes, Networks and Connections’, such as the story of Henley’s 18th century stone bridge, and the pioneering sculptor who designed the capstones, Anne Seymour-Damer.
Henley Masonic Centre Thames Lodge
Thames Lodge – incorporating Henley Masonic Centre Come and see the inside of our remarkable building, the Henley Masonic Centre- Thames Lodge, which has not normally been open to the public since our establishment in 1881. No need to just walk by!
View the rooms in Town Hall that are not normally open for public viewing along with Artworks and Regalia.
