Greener Henley is pleased to be hosting our GBGW Green Screen event: Elephant Mother at the Regal Cinema on Sunday 9 June at 2pm, followed by a live Q&A session with the film’s main character, Lek Chailert!

One woman’s quest to help save Thailand’s iconic and once-sacred elephants, Elephant Mother is a classic story of ‘David vs. Goliath’, and a timely exposé of eco-tourism.

Lek Chailert, a tribal Thai woman, struggles to rescue abused elephants from the horrifically cruel but secretive Thai tourist industry and give them a life free from exploitation.

Whilst she is globally renowned within the conservation world, the odds are all stacked against her as big business, political corruption, and a ‘mafia’ of traders and traffickers are ranged against her. But as the world hurtles into a global pandemic, Lek cleverly identifies this time of uncertainty and fear as an opportunity to out-manoeuvre her enemies and turn the tables.

The film offers a unique perspective into the deep emotional bonds between elephants and the people striving to free them, shedding light on the need for conservation and protection of these majestic creatures.

The incredible Lek is touring with her film across Picturehouse and will join us for a 45min Q&A discussion after the film! We are hoping to have other panel members also, watch this space..

Lek Chailert: Founder of Save Elephant Foundation and Elephant Nature Park, Lek is a Thai tribal woman and conservationist who rescues elephants from abuse in the Thai tourist industry whilst threatened by a powerful so-called Elephant Mafia. In return for saving the life of a young man, her grandfather, a shaman or traditional healer, was given an elephant named Thong Kham, meaning Golden One. The bond that developed between Lek and Thong Kham sparked a love and respect for elephants that was to shape the course of her life.

Green Screen tickets cost £10.

Doors open at 1:50pm, with the film itself ending around 4.15pm, followed by a 45min Q&A, ending 5pm. Bring your re-usable cups for FREE filter tea/filter coffee
