Dance for VE Day – Henley Celebrates
Step back in time to wartime Henley and celebrate the end of World War II with a fully immersive 1940s Dance Hall Experience.
Join us for night of nostalgia stepping back in time to wartime Henley and celebrate the end of World War II with a fully immersive 1940s Dance Hall Experience. This fantastic event is a tribute to the weekly entertainment that the council provided for residents, evacuees, and military personnel stationed in Henley-on-Thames.
The evening kicks off learning to Lindy Hop with Swing Dance Summertown who will be teaching all the moves.
Even if you have two left feet they will get you bouncing with the rhythm. You are going to love it.

Dashing, debonair, dandy and dapper, the classic swing tunes of the 30’s and 40’s are sounding, and looking, pretty damn good with Richie Paradise.
Now established as one of the UK’s favourite dance big bands, The Big R are facilitators of SWING. Led from the front by Bristol’s best dressed drummer, Richie Paradise, the 16 piece band will keep the dance floor busy.
So if you’re a lunatic for Lindy, go soft for Shag, bellow for Balboa, desperate for some Duke, or begging for Basie, Big R have got you covered.

Keeping the drinks flowing The Old Bell’s 1940s-themed bar will be serving up fabulous cocktails and drinks from the era.
Sir Winston Churchill will be making an appearance and as for keeping you safe for the evening, look out for The Home Guard!
Dress to impress 1940s style and immerse yourself in the era of wartime Henley.
Keep an eye out on our socials for updates.
All profits from the evening are being donated to The Royal British Legion.
