Breakfast Conversation with Imogen Walsh
Henley Female Networking Group – with guest speaker Imogen Walsh.
We can’t wait to see you at our next meeting of the Henley Female Networking Group.
Henley FNG provides an opportunity for professional and personal networking for women in Henley and surrounding areas. On the fourth Friday of each month, like minded women can come together in a welcoming environment which creates a space to learn, develop and grow while connecting with amazing women and becoming a part of a supportive community.
For just one and a half hours each month (the fourth Friday of the month), prioritise yourself and join us when Henley FNG will meet over breakfast and be treated to an inspirational and personal account from a guest speaker and expert in their field.
This month we would like to welcome Imogen Walsh as our guest speaker.
Imogen started rowing at the relatively late age of 20, having coxed a handful of times at primary school age in the north of Scotland. With no real plan to row internationally and simply the desire to enjoy some good racing, Imogen arrived at GB Trials for the first time in 2010. Life here took an unexpected turn, and led to five years as part of the GB Rowing Team, becoming World Champion twice, taking numerous World Cup wins and podium placings, plus a win in the prestigious Wingfield Sculls. However, not all that glitters is gold, and not everything went to plan, with illness knocking things off track in the pre-Olympic year. Imogen retired in 2016, and what followed was a response to the good and the bad, the successful and unsuccessful, the life lessons learned, and the desire to see sport used for purposes aside from the physiological, but to empower those marginalised in society, and break down social barriers.
From international development charity work, to international rowing, and finally to delivering rowing projects in the most unconventional of settings – from the Maldives to UK prisons. Imogen will discuss how her journey through sport has led to the project she now manages – Boats not Bars, a prison rowing course aimed at reducing reoffending and improving mental health.
Tickets £20 including breakfast
