Pubs & Bars

What could be more quintessentially British than that fine institution, the pub. Visitors from all over the world crave to experience the wooden beams, history and cosy comforts of our most traditional places to pause for thought, rest our bones and enjoy a drink. We have been doing it for centuries. Henley is steeped in history and the pubs are at the heart of it. The Old Bell in Bell Street dates back to even before the Black Death struck, believed to be oldest building in town built in 1325.

The Angel on the Bridge

Dating back to 1728, this iconic grade II listed pub is one of the most photographed and painted pubs in England, because of its architecture and the amazing riverside location on the River Thames. It is the only pub in town to stand on the river.

Inside it’s a quintessentially English pub with original beams and fireplace serving freshly cooked food. Outside on the terrace, it’s the perfect place to have a drink, a bite to eat and watch life go by on the river.

The Old Bell

The Old Bell offers customers a great pint of Brakspear and a bit of nostalgic escape time from the bustle of the street outside.

At the heart of every village is a great local pub. Relax, unwind, chat with the locals and of course, have a drink. When you enter The Old Bell you step back in time. The building itself is recorded as being the oldest in Henley, dating from 1325 and although the landlady Claire isn’t quite as old, she’s kept the class and charm of a proper public house. Low wood beam ceilings, plush furnishings, bluesy jazz music, quality drinks and nibbles and a smile from behind the bar are just some of what you can expect.
