Eat Your Microgreens

Your Mum always used to say ‘eat your greens’ and we now know that was good advice, now-a-days though you may well hear, ‘eat your microgreens’ at dinner time!
In the last few years you have probably eaten in a restaurant and had a dish served up to you decorated with amazingly pretty and flavour packed microgreens and may have wondered where to get your hands on some for yourself. Well fear not Henleyites, you can now source your microgreens fresh as anything from just down the road.
Devils Hill Microgreens in Harpsden is the brain child of Neale Cannings, who is also dabbling in viticulture with his own vineyard, coincidentilly named Devils Hill Vineyard (hoping for their first harvest next year) alongside being an airline pilot.
Here at Experience Henley we love nutrient packed microgreen flavour bombs so we wanted to find out more about what Neale’s plans are and how we can get our hands on some.

Microgreen growing was formed out of Neale’s love of growing food and fair bit of uncertaintly during the pandemic what with the worlds airlines being grounded. Initially the plan was to just to grow some for home consumption but now the plans are to sell locally to residents, chefs and restaurants. His drive isn’t to make money but to make the best out of life.
Neale’s plan is to stay fairly small where he can set up a home delivery service meaning that you will be able to get your microgreens within 24hrs of harvesting to your table, unlike the bags of pea shoots and microgreens that you find in the supermarkets meaning they will be amazingly fresh. He has even had some of his pea shoots that he has grown and harvested himself still fresh in the fridge seventeen days later!

Not only are microgreens delicious they are absolutely packed with concentrated nutrients, with broccoli being the healthiest of the all!
You can order packs of one type of microgreen or their mixed packs; Micro Salad Mix of sweet Pea Shoots, spicy Radish and some nutty Sunflower or the Spicy Mix of Kohlrabi, Broccoli, Mustard, Rocket, Kale, Red Cabbage and China Rose Radish.

Also, if you can’t find what you want, they will source the seed and grow it for you to add the finishing touches to any dish, whether it’s a specific flavour, colour, or maybe edible flowers.
