For the EXPERIENCE HENLEY CHEESE CLUB‘s next event we thought that Burns Night would be a perfect opportunity to hop over the border to Scotland for an evening of five excellent Scottish cheeses to taste and alongside to discover five exceptional premium whiskies. Plus we’re delighted to be hosting the event in the new independent tap bar Stable Thirty Four in Hart Street, Henley.

Phil Chappell will give you an insightful guided tasting learning the history and secrets of each whisky he has chosen especailly for you to try.

Phil’s interest in whisky dates back to the late 1980’s and he soon became a member of Scotch Malt Whisky Society. The society started when a few friends bought a cask of malt whisky from Glenfarclas distillery and sold it amongst themselves. Hence an idea was born of getting access to many single barrel malt whiskies that weren’t then generally available. Now we are at a boom stage for malt whisky with prices rocketing up and production booming.

Phil has tasted most Scottish distilleries single malts plus some from Japan, Wales, England and Europe. He is also a fan of single grain whiskies and blended malts.

Philippa Ratcliffe, former deli owner (and of course cheese buyer), Guild of Fine Food Cheese Diploma and former World Cheese Award judge will be tasting along with you and take you through the five specially selected cheeses from across Scotland that have been paired with the whiskies, from a whisky rind washed cheese, a smokey cheddar to a punchy blue.

Along with Scottish oat biscuts and delicious chutney.

Throughout the evening there will be suprise tasty morsels of Burns Night Bites with haggis, neeps & tatties and cranachan but not as you know it!

Anyone who has been to one of Experience Henley’s Cheese Club events will know that you’re in for a fantastic relaxed and informal evening and there are always a few extra surprises in store.

Doors open at 6.30pm with a welcome drink on arrival. You will also be able to buy drinks throughout the evening from the bar.
