Battle of Britain Memorial Flight on all three days of The Trad
This year the Thames Traditional Boat Festival taking place at Fawley Meadows on 19th-21st July have been allocated aeroplanes from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight on all three days*!
Flypasts by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight really are the icing on the cake of what is already the ultimate vintage experience on the banks of the Thames. There is nothing quite like the flypasts at The Trad. Make a note of the timings below and make sure that you’re there to experience the thrill of these exceptional historical aircraft flying overhead.
19th July – Hurricane & Spitfire flypast between 1305-1315
20th July – Hurricane & Spitfire flypast between 1515 – 1525
21st July – Lancaster flypast between 1330-1340
The iconic Supermarine Spitfire was critical in defeating Luftwaffe air attacks during the Battle of Britain in 1940. More Spitfires were built than any other British combat aircraft before or since World War Two – 20,341 in total. There are six Spitfires on the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight
The Hawker Hurricane played a vital role in the Battle of Britain. There are only 12 airworthy Hurricanes left in the world, and the BBMF proudly operates two of these historically important aircraft
The Avro Lancaster is the most famous and successful RAF heavy bomber of World War Two. For the last three years of the Second World War they were the main heavy bomber used by Bomber Command to take the war to the heart-land of Nazi Germany. On average Lancasters completed twenty-one missions before being lost.
There are only two airworthy Lancasters left in the world – 7,377 were built.
