The two hundred and fifty year old pub slap bang in the middle of Market Place has new blood at the helm. Still owned by Greene King, it is now operated by the team that has won awards for their work with The Sussex Arms in Twickenham, The Cornerhouse in Windsor and The Express Tavern in Kew are now firmly in situ at The Argyll Pub & Kitchen.

We wanted to find out more, so we spoke to Dick Morgan, the driving force behind the team. He says, ‘we have been working hard behind the scenes to develop a refined but contemporary character, building on our wealth of British pub culture and dining experience. We focus on providing quality food and drink at great prices in a relaxed and comfortable setting with great service, and we cannot wait to introduce ourselves!’

He has great plans for The Argyll including a refurb of the pub in the Spring. At the moment though, he said that they are continuing to run the pub ‘as is’ but with a change in the food & drink offer. He said that food at The Argyll will be an unfussy affair with great pub classics cooked on the premises being the order of the day with burgers, pulled pork, BBQ ribs, Sunday Roasts and bar snacks along with special daily offers.

As The Argyll is using the Big Smoke Brew Co ordering system in the pub we asked Dick as to whether we were likely to see the Esher craft bewery beers in Henley. He said that they would certainly be looking at taking further lines and as they have a great working relationship with Greene King, they see no reason why not. The craft beer Big Smoke Brew Co already supply their other pubs. The team prides themselves on having a wide choice of cask ales, keg lines and ciders plus a great range of bottled beers & ciders, affordable wine list and carefully selected spirits.

The pub has an impressive amount of space and Dick with his team, headed up by Dawn Mileham, have lots of exciting plans for events, and developing the use of the fabulous outdoor area and car park at the rear of the pub. They are also hoping to gain a licence for tables and chairs in Market Place.

Having only been in situ for a few weeks The Argyll has adapted to the current government restrictions and have a full takeaway service available where you can order home cooked food, fresh cask & keg beer and fine wines. They are also selling beer from £2.50 pint served in 1, 2 or 4 pint sealed containers ready to enjoy at home!

The Argyll pub serves quality cask ales, good wine and great home cooked food. The pub is busy most days and is a favorite destination for townsfolk, local business people and tourists. Meals are available all day until 9pm and 8pm on Sundays including chefs specials. Groups are welcome though it is best to prebook to avoid disappointment. There is a comfortable patio area and pub car park.
