ArtSpark, part of the Henley Arts Trail, is an annual competition created to nurture and celebrate the most promising young artists across the region. Open to students in Years 11, 12 and 13, the initiative offers an inspiring platform for emerging talent, along with meaningful opportunities that can genuinely shape an artistic future.

Winners of the ArtSpark competition receive an exceptional package, a full day of one‑to‑one tuition with a professional artist in their chosen medium, plus £100 worth of high‑quality Daler Rowney art materials. This combination of expert guidance and professional‑grade supplies gives young creatives both the skills and the tools to push their practice further.

The competition is generously supported by The Judith Fletcher Memorial Fund, The Arts Society Henley, and Daler Rowney, local and national champions of arts education who recognise the importance of investing in young talent.

The 2025 competition saw three outstanding young artists recognised for their creativity and potential. Lucy Liu, the inaugural recipient of the Judith Fletcher Prize, was honoured alongside Evelyn Young and Zinnia Hodge, who received awards sponsored by The Arts Society Henley. All three winners selected an oil‑painting masterclass with acclaimed artist Sue Tilbury, gaining hands‑on experience in a professional studio environment.

More than a competition, ArtSpark is a celebration of youthful imagination and a meaningful investment in the cultural life of the Henley area. By offering professional guidance, recognition, and resources, it helps young artists build confidence, refine their skills, and take bold steps toward their creative futures.

Last year’s winner Lucy Liu has gone on to study art at UCL this year.
