Art from the streets of Montpellier
Spray Gallery is opening their debut gallery space in the heart of Henley-on-Thames at 2 Friday Street and Experience Henley popped in for a little preview of the works before they open their doors this Friday. Spray Gallery will surely make waves in the world of contemporary art, showcasing and retailing exclusive artwork by their Montpellier artists, never seen before in the UK.
Spray Gallery is hosting an opening this Friday 24th May from 6pm and all are welcome to join them to celebrate at their SOIRÉE of drinks, music and art!
Spray’s niche roster of artists is a carefully curated selection. Creating both hip and swish contemporary art, Spray’s artists all have a ‘street to studio’ story. Their work is truly engaging. The main crux is that the gallery is a celebration of the artists’ work and a funky environment to show off their eclectic and diverse creativity.
It’s a must to chat with Sam about the artists and their stories, all of whom Sam met when studying in Montpellier and was captivated by their creativity and impact on the social surrounds the artists created their works.
The gallery presents five incredible artists who are pioneers of the Montpellier (southern France) street art movement. “I selected five stand-out talents who all have inspirational stories as well as a striking artistic practice. I believe their work is not only fascinating for exhibition purposes, but also an ideal fit-out for offices, hallways, lobbies, foyers, bars, restaurants, hotels etc…The artists all have a ‘street to studio’ story where they began their careers as graffiti writers, and have developed their practice into more post-graffiti, gallery-style work. I’m bringing their work over to the UK contemporary art market for the first time in their careers, and I aim to promote the artists, their art and their stories to the UK audience”, says gallery owner Samuel Farlow, Founding Curator Spray Gallery.
Notorious on the Montpellier contemporary art scene, Little Lewis, Salamech, Sunra, Olivier Secretan and Oups all have a fascinating focus to their artistic practice. Their styles are mixed and similar at the same time. Collectively and as individual artists, the group all have an engaging historic evolution to their practice and this is what is most intriguing about their work.
Spray Gallery hopes to collaborate with both corporate and domestic clients and the gallery can facilitate artist commissions and can organise mural paintings for clients too. Curating a unique collection, bespoke to a particular ambiance is Spray’s forte, and that’s why at Spray Gallery they also believe that a lease of art option should be available.
The gallery has open edition prints, limited edition prints and original work, and says it’s excited for what’s in store!
