AA Rosettes, Michelin mentions and new autumn menus

It’s been a good week for Henley foodie announcements with two standout accolades, Orwells Restaurant once again secured 4 AA Rosettes, for the ninth consecutive year, while The Three Tuns gets listed in the Michelin Guide. Plus local autumn menus land.
Orwells Restaurant in Binfield Heath has been awarded 4 AA rosettes for the 9th consecutive year. This places Ryan & Liam Simpson-Trotman’s restaurant among the most prestigious dining destinations in the UK and is currently the only restaurant in South Oxfordshire to hold four AA Rosettes. This puts Orwells on par with the likes of Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay and The Ledbury.
A favourite local restaurant for many and you’ll be pleased to hear that they have introduced 2 & 3 course fix priced A La Carte menus. Superb if your wallet cant quite stretch to their tasting menu, but you want to experience their outstanding food.

The next to blow their trumpet, joining Orwells and The Golden Ball in the Michelin Guide is the newcomer to Henley The Three Tuns, achieving the mention under the auspices of Chef Scott Smith, following in the footsteps of their sister pub The Oarsman in Marlow.
The guide’s comments, “Compact yet characterful, there’s plenty to love about this bijou pub overlooking the main square in Henley-on-Thames. It’s co-owned by Barry Wagner from the neighbouring Gabriel Machin butcher’s shop, which means there are plenty of his own high-quality meats on the menu. Keep an eye on the ever-changing Butcher’s Board in particular, for the likes of lamb chops or bavette steak frites. The underlying principle is unfussy food and an atmosphere to match, with a great relaxed vibe. In summer, arrive early for a drink on the terrace.”

It’s officially cosy season, and we’re ready for crisp autumn walks and the seasonal menus that have now landed.
We’re loving the sound of The Plough at Shiplake‘s new menu, especially their Dirty Anna of Black Bomber Espuma & Dorset Venison Chorizo for ‘while you wait’ and the Braised Beef Cheek with Wild Mushroom starter. Now we’re in game season, the Venison Loin with salt baked celeriac, mushroom purée, malt crumb & bone marrow sauce sounds pretty good, as does the Skate Wing with seaweed butter, brown shrimp and capers from the A La Carte menu. They also have a set lunch menu which is available midweek which sounds ace, pass us the Iberico Pork Presa with chimichurri please!
Along with the autumn menu at The Bull on Bell Street they have brought back brunch with all the eggs benny dishes you need as well as Shakshuka.
The Red Lion at Peppard are shouting about their Fig Glazed Barbary Duck Breast with pickled turnips. We have our eyes on the Slow Cooked Pork Belly, bubble & squeak bon bon with red cabbage and crackling!
Coppa Club‘s autumn menu teases with warming Braised Ox Cheek with creamy mashed potato & red wine gravy or Seared Lamb Rump with pumpkin purée and roasted celeriac. Also new to Coppa Club is their Sunday Roast menu.

The Cherry Tree at Stoke Row, which has recently opened under the ownership of Imma The Bakery’s Tonna Erreguin, are starting to find their way with their menu and small plate dishes. This has continued through to doing Sunday Roasts, along with starters such as Salt baked celeriac carpaccio, goats curd, apple gel, white grapes and smoked almonds, and Brown crab potato croquettes with apple sauce and alioli.
