When your egg is jammy you’re on to a good thing

After two months at The Three Horseshoes, Mike and Grace invited Experience Henley to check out their mini refurb of the pub and sample some of their classic pub grub dishes.
We arrived on a Friday lunchtime around 1.30pm, and the pub was buzzing with a great atmosphere. The removal of the pool table from the front bar has created a fantastic space for catching up with friends, enjoying small plates while having a pint, or watching football on a Saturday afternoon.
The pub exudes a friendly, warm, and homely vibe, with a crackling fire in the bar area providing a warm welcome and the wooden new flooring throughout has transformed the feel. We grabbed a pint of Brakspears and a glass of wine before heading to our table.

The menu offers some great classic pub bites on the small plates menu, including different flavoured Chicken Wings, Salt and Pepper Squid, Garlic Mushrooms, and good old Nachos with all the toppings.
We decided to try the Handmade Scotch Egg, and as any scotch egg aficionado knows, the yolk needs to be jammy to get the thumbs up, which this one did. The sausage meat was tasty and herby, with a lovely crisp coating. Served on a bed of celeriac remoulade, it was the perfect start to our Friday pub lunch.

Grace proudly recommended the Fish and Chips, so we gave it a try. The fish is fresh daily and coated in a special batter, which Mike says is his secret recipe. The batter was beautifully crispy and light, with no soggy bottom, and the fish was super tasty, accompanied by fat chips—no skinny fries here!
On a cold winter’s day, what could be better than sausage, onion gravy, and mash? Not much, to be honest, as the Wild Boar sausages were really flavoursome, covered with a rich onion gravy, and served on top of a generous portion of super smooth and creamy mash.
Though we initially thought we had no room for dessert, we were persuaded to try the Homemade Brownie with Salted Caramel Ice-cream and Honeycomb, which we shared. Wrong decision, this was so delicious it was spoons at dawn over the moreish squidgy, warm, chocolatey brownie.
We absolutely loved our meal here, not only was everything really tasty, but there’s also a real honesty about the food. This is proper pub food, reasonably priced, and done really well. If you’re looking for a good, honest pub experience with great food and a warm welcome, you need to visit The Three Horseshoes.
So whether you’re looking for a pub lunch, an evening out, or meeting up with friends, you’ll receive the warmest of welcomes and go home happy.
